production switchers offer power unmatched in any other switcher offered. Not only are the DVE and switcher functions truly integrated into the mixer, but the network capability and included PostDeko and Thunder Browse software let the PDSi easily connect to and use the graphics power of Deko, Thunder, liquid, and DVEXCEL.
i is for Integration
The secret to the i-series incredible flexibility is Pinnacle System s renowned skills in integrating products over standard computer networks. These skills have now been brought to bear on the Production Switcher. The i-series switchers can be connected to your graphics network via a standard, Ethernet cable. The trick is not in simply connecting to the network, it s how you use it that counts. All i-series switchers come equipped with Pinnacle s Thunder browse software. With this software, the user can pictorially browse any other Pinnacle Systems BroadNeT products, such as the Thunder production
clip and still server, which may have come from a liquid, DVEXCEL DVE, or Deko Character generator.
Still images can be pulled into the switcher s internal still database via a standard Windows drag and drop operation. These stills can then be output from any of the switcher s framestores. Conversely, the graphics department can push images to the switcher s database for later playback.
Watch folders on the switcher can provide a direct path for the graphics department to push images directly to a framestore s pages.
The benefits don t stop there. The integrated browse software can open a clip database on any Thunder Production Server, which is connected to the switcher. The switcher operator can then visually browse the clips on the Thunder s database, and drag and drop them onto the switcher s timeline system. The clip instantly becomes part of the switcher effect, playing back on cue at some arbitrary point on the timeline. What makes this especially powerful is that the switcher operator can perform exactly the same operation, but this time drag and drop a Thunder playback sequence into the switcher timeline. Now the Thunder will run its own sequence engine to trigger a playlist of clips back to back, with transitions, all as part of the switcher s timeline. This dramatically increases productivity and adds a whole new level of sophistication to on-air production.
Adding even further capabilities, the switcher operator can open the Thunder s database, and actually scrub the clip using the browse software s proxy viewer. Clip in and out points can now be adjusted visually from the switcher.
