Used Motor and Hoist Controllers

Any stage or theatrical production has some technical aspects which need to be operated by controllers. One of the most common of these is the theatrical rigging system or fly system, which refers to a system that enables a stage crew to fly components such as curtains, lights, scenery, stage effects, sound systems and even people. Lifting or lowering is performed by using controllers of a hoist which can be manually, electrically or pneumatically driven. Electric hoists are managed by the fly crew using a motor controller or a hoist controller. Manufacturers of these hoists as well as their controllers comply with specific industry standards for safety. Hoist controllers vary by the type of motor control they provide. A hoist may have a low voltage, programmable, variable speed drive or direct control motor controller. Controllers for hoists also vary by the type of lifting medium supported. A chain hoist control system, for example, is a device for controlling hoists that use a chain as the lifting medium. Some manufacturers offer hoists that do not have internal electrics or control for external control integration. This allows buyers or stage production venues to build the hoists into their own control system. Hoists and motor controllers are used in the touring, stage and theatre industry as important aspects of stagecraft. Use of industry-standard hoists and controllers are covered building, occupational safety, and fire codes for theaters and similar venues.
