An audio amplifier is an electronic amplifier that intensifies low-power audio signals to the level that can drive loudspeakers. These signals are basically within the frequency range of 20 - 20 000 Hz, which humans can hear. It is the last component in the signal chain that involves pre-amplification, equalization, tone control, mixing/effects or audio sources which should adhere to line levels. Output from an amplifier may be tens, hundreds, or thousands of watts even if the input signal is only a few hundred microwatts. A number of accessories are available to make transporting and storing amplifiers easier, enhance the performance and appearance of amplifiers, or make them usable or easy to use. Amp connectors link the amplifier to other equipment and they come in different styles, designs and brand. Cord connectors, for example, are available in twistlock and camlock styles. A Soca connector (refers to similar connectors from Socapex or another company) is an electrical connector used in lighting systems for film, television and stages to terminate the multicable ends. It is also used in live events as a trunk cable to connect PA speakers or stage wedges to amplifiers usually using breakin and breakout cables to NL2/NL4/NL8 or EP5. An RCA connector, a type of Socapex patch cord, carries amplified signals from amplifiers to speakers (both in a PA system and with instrument amplifiers) via heavier-gauge cables. Circuit breakers are needed to protect the amplifier from damage caused by large surge currents at power-up. Other examples of amplifier accessories are blank panel for racks to fill the unused vertical space in amp rack panel, mounting kits, wall panels, Edison connectors and more.
