A moving light truss is a special kind of frame which moving lights, or intelligent lighting, is attached to. A moving light truss is necessary in order for moving lights to be secured to a ceiling or wall, or else be attached to a tower during concerts at outdoor venues. A typical moving light truss will be made from polished aluminum tubing, as this material is strong yet lightweight, and relatively inexpensive. The moving light truss will be strengthened by the diagonal braces in each of the triangles, a design that is proven to vastly increase the strength of this kind of structure. Moving lights can be attached to the truss through chords, and are secured with spigots or pins. The light fixtures can be fitted at the bottom of the truss (while it is secured to a wall, ceiling or tower), or inside the truss. The moving light truss is available in a wide range of sizes and load bearing strengths, starting from the smallest sections (typically about 1 meter in length and weighing 13lbs) up to the giant â??supertrussesâ?? (about 20 feet long and weighing around 325lbs). For transportation, a moving lights truss may be fitted with wheel trucks that can slide up and lock in place when not in use. They may also have side ladders which can swing up and down and lock into place, for accessing the truss when it is already in situ. Lastly, moving lights trusses are usually designed so they can be flat-packed (stacked on top of each other) so they can easily be packed into a truck.
