Le Maitre Special Effects Inc. is a manufacturer and distributor of special effects equipment including fog, haze, bubbles, snow, dry ice, simulated flames, pyrotechnic controllers and indoor pyrotechnic effects. We are the leading provider of solutions for the entertainment industry.
Special effects lighting systems are widely used in the theater, concert, television, film and entertainment industries in order to simulate a wide range of optical and mechanical effects during productions. Optical special effects refer to techniques in which photographically created film or image frames are adapted using processes such as mattes or multiple exposure. Mechanical special effects are more physical in nature, and are created using a range of physical apparatus on set, such as props, pyrotechnics, special effects lighting, atmospheric effect machines such as fog or cloud machines, and many more. Examples of mechanical special effects include explosions or cars appearing to drive with no driver present. CGI, or computer generate imagery, has become the mainstay of most special effects techniques nowadays, as it allows for far superior control over such things as special effects lighting. The use of CGI has grown to such an extent that many mechanical special effects are now done using CGI rather than props and other physical apparatus. There are a huge number of special effects techniques employed nowadays, including bullet time, which involves distorting the way the speed of events are perceived by viewers, digital composting, matte painting, morphing, motion control photography, optical effects and printing, go motion, virtual cinematography and more.
