AB - A stereo recording technique. Two microphones of the same make and model are located next to one another in , and point in the same direction. The left mic is panned hard left on the mixer. The right. Used . mic is panned hard right.

This technique has flaws, such as audio reflections from each mic which can cause comb filtering (narrow coverage). This can be somewhat corrected by s. Used . pacing the mics out, but this will not fully correct the problem and can lead to muddy sound from delay artifacts.

Fresnel - Fresnels are typically 8-, 6- or 4-inch, referring to the diameter of the lens. This light is named after Augustin-Jean Fresnel who invented the distinctive Fresnel lens which has a 'stepped' appearan. Used . ce instead of the 'full' or 'smooth' appearance of other lenses. The stepped nature of the lens causes a corresponding pattern of circles of light, so Fresnel lenses are usually 'stippled' on. Used . the flat side. This pattern of small bumps helps to break up the light passing into the lens to smooth out its eventual pattern.

Ellipsoidals

Ellipsoidals is the colloquial term for a stage lighting instrument called the ERS (Ellipsoidal Reflector Spotlight), Profile Spotlight or Profile Spot. Other colloquial terms for the same device are Shakespeare or Leko, which is actually a brand name. Ellipsoidals are so named based on the shape of the reflector that they possess. The ellipsoidal contours capture and focus light through a cylinder containing a lens train or lens. Ellipsoidals are of different types and come in various sizes and shapes, each having its own particular qualities. Possessing optics with similar characteristics to a typical 35 mm slide projector, they are designed for a large variety of uses in the entertainment sector. They are also the most used among all types of stage lighting devices. They are called Profile Spotlights because the beams can be customized to readily take the shape of the object’s profile. Ellipsoidals are primarily required for more intense, clearly-outlined lighting requirements that offer greater flexibility. Source Four is yet another brand name for this type of lighting instrument. Normally, an ellipsoidal lighting unit has: an adjustable lens tube enclosing the lens or lens train; an ellipsoidal reflector; one or two Plano-convex or PC lenses; a set of bracing elements for holding the gel frames; two pairs of shutters mounted on an internally-located focal point; a metal gobo slot. The lamps in ellipsoidals are mostly rear-loaded, and either axially- or radially-mounted, with the base oriented up or down. Using the light wrong side up will result to a shorter lifespan.
