Indoor Architectural Lighting

Indoor architectural lighting is seen by its proponents as something of an art, as well as a science. Also called architectural lighting design, indoor architectural lighting is about carefully balancing the requirements of light in a building with the building’s aesthetics, and also the cost and energy efficiency of the indoor architectural lighting system. For example, in indoor hotel lighting or indoor museum lighting, it’s possible to analyze how much daylight the internal spaces of the building receive, using something called the Daylight Factor to calculate this. These calculations can be based on tabular data in smaller, simpler buildings, and then applied to its indoor architectural lighting design. However, if a specialist indoor architectural lighting design is required for indoor building lighting, then it’s better to use software programs or mathematical models to calculate the optimum amount of light that will be needed for the most aesthetically pleasing effect.
