The company was founded in 1983 by Michael Adenau (MA) and enjoys strong growth from the very beginning until today. More than 10,000 MA control desks are being used all over the world and MAÂ´s digital dimming systems have become an industry standard. The success accelerated in 1985, when software specialist Ernst Ebrecht joined MA Lighting as a partner. In this period MA introduced the Lightcommander 24 and Lightcommander 48 control desks. When launched in 1992 the MA Scancommander caused a huge stir in the burgeoning world of moving light control. This product established MA Lighting as a leading innovator of lighting control for the global touring and event sector. Leading producers of intelligent lighting showed great interest in MA's new operating philosophy, which radically differed from the historical "dimmer -oriented" control systems of that time. The full color touch screens, motorized faders, built in UPS (uninterruptible power supply) and hard drive were only the beginning. The summer of 2000 saw the launch of a host of new products from MA, the grandMA light, the grandMA replay unit and the grandMA offline editor. In the autumn of 2001, the grandMA range will be completed with the introduction of the grandMA ultra-light. The ultra-light has 1,024 channels but retains the main features of a grandMA at a very competitive price. Today, MA Lighting are well known for their technical know-how and have achieved an unique international reputation for its operational philosophy. In this history lesson, we'd like to direct special focus on our people at Manley Labs. The people whose years of dedication, service, and expertise bring you people, our customers, these products. It's all about the people... On January 30, 1989, a 20 year old EveAnna on sabbatical from her studies at Columbia University met the crew and was hired on to the production team. Baltazar Hernandez, already with two years experience, taught her how to solder in those first few days. It was in 1989 that the first Manley professional products were developed, starting with the original 1u Reference 60dB Microphone Preamplifier and soon followed by our Manley Enhanced Pultec and Mid Frequency Equalizers. Baltazar and EveAnna, busy building gear, were soon joined by Saulo and Ramiro Montalvo. Just next door, Elias Guzman was employed by a printed circuit board maker later brought into the Manley Labs fold when in 1993, Manley Laboratories, Inc. became a separate entity apart from VTL. The new Manley Labs factory at 13880 Magnolia Ave. in beautiful and bovine Chino, California was outfitted to house the Manley HiFi and Pro Studio manufacturing as well as the Langevin production lines, our newly acquired machine shop, and printed circuit board facilities.

People often assume that MartinLogan was founded by a couple of guys named Martin and Logan, which is sort of true: Gayle Martin Sanders and Ron Logan Sutherland. MartinLogan "just sounded better than SandersSutherland," Sanders explains. (Apparently they never considered GayleRon.) The two met in the late '70s at a high-end audio store Sanders managed in Lawrence, Kansas. Despite very different backgroundsâ??Sanders had trained in architecture and advertising, Sutherland in electrical engineeringâ??they shared a passion for music and, they soon discovered, electrostatic loudspeakers. For anyone seeking the ultimate in sonic purity and clarity, electrostatics held enormous appeal. Unfortunately, designing and building one that will also produce the sound levels and bass extension most people expect from a loudspeaker is a formidable challenge, even today. Back then, only a relative handful of electrostatic speakers had ever been brought to market. Although most were failures, a few, such as the KLH Model 9 and Quad ESL, were legendary among audio enthusiasts. The KLH probably came closer than any other full-range electrostatic speaker of its day to competing effectively with conventional speakers in bass and output capability. It was very big, however, and finicky and expensive, and it didn't fit in at all with the rest of KLH's line. Consequently, sales were modest, and eventually the Model 9 went out of production. The Quad ESL was much more successful, especially in its native England, and until MartinLogan's products came on the scene it was arguably the only commercially significant electrostatic loudspeaker in history. It suffered the classic limitations of the breed, however. Though the original Quad electrostatic was widely regarded as the world's finest reproducer of chamber music, fans of rock and even symphonic music were inclined to look elsewhere.

METEOR as a brand name in the entertainment light and sound industry has its origins in the UK where it was formed as "Meteor Illusion" in the late 1960's. Early products included sound-to-light controllers (Meteor 3000), the first sequential light chaser chaser (Meteor Tenway Chaser), Projection using the original Rank Aldis Tutor II projector and Graphic and Oil Wheels(the first truly psychedelic visual effect) and all the laser like, sound animated, crowd pleasing effects in fog. Subsequently METEOR created the now legendary ProBeam Projector Series. These are still in production and being sold. Manufacturing of Meteor was started in the UK, and following the acquisition of METEOR by the Hammond Group (Revox Corporation etc on Long Island, NY) in the early 1970's, development and production of the Meteor ClubMan DJ Mixer range was established in the USA. This was followed by a range of new lighting controllers and major effects, which has continued to this day with a new facility set up in Madison, Alabama in 1980. Our innovative controllers are what other manufacturers tried, unsuccessfully of course, to copy. METEOR set the standard, and then raised the standards on quality. Billboard Magazine rated the CLUBMAN DJ MIXERS as Best Mixer on the market for 7 years in a row. The Corporate Mission of Meteor has always been to provide products that deliver excitement and entertainment to the viewer - not just more 'bells and whistles' that had no effect on those dancing or cruising.
