Microtech Gefell GmbH was formerly named VEB Mikrofontechnik Gefell and prior to that Georg Neumann & Co./Gefell. The company is located in Germany in a small town named Gefell. The town's location is quite central, about 200 miles equally distant from Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt. The village of Gefell was a textile center but is now mainly a farming community. It is approximately three miles to the old border between East and West Germany. The only reminder of the border now is a military barracks. The nearest city with hotel accommodations is Hof, population about 80,000. The city of Dresden is about one hour's drive away. The Technical University of Dresden cooperates on new developments with Microtech Gefell GmbH. A member of Microtech's staff is stationed at the university.

Galaxy Audio Speakers By 1977, Superior Sound, operated by Brock Jabara and his partner Jim Pearce, had already logged eight years in the concert sound business. Banks of their cavernous black boxes flanked the stages of concert halls and arenas all over the country, providing sound for Aretha Franklin, The Bee Gees, Asleep at the Wheel, Janis Joplin, Sly and the Family Stone, Jean Luc Ponty, James Brown, and countless others. When Superior Sound outfitted a show, they supplied the equipment and the personnel. If something wasn't right, Brock and Jim heard about it then and there, they were the ones manning the board. Superior Sound was on the road with Mike Finnigan, a noted side man (Jimi Hendrix, Crosby, Stills and Nash) who was launching a solo career. Being from the same city (Wichita), Brock and Jim and Mike went way back. But that didn't stop Finnigan from complaining on stage anytime something in the mix failed to meet his standards. Sometimes in mid song he'd stop just to gripe, "I can't hear the monitors!" Brock and Jim were like survivors of a shipwreck, stranded on their mixing console island in a sea of rowdy concert goers with the main attraction berating them from the stage. "I can't hear myself! Turn up the (bleeping) monitors!" Even with 100 watts of power being pumped into each of the two massive floor wedges positioned next to Finnigan's keyboard, every night was the same, "Turn up the monitors!" The boos and catcalls began to have a decidedly negative effect on the crew's morale. The challenge was to produce a monitor that could be head above any din. During a mid-tour break, Brock directed speaker builder Larry Schneider, at Superior Sound's Wichita shop, to cram 5-inch drivers four abreast in an enclosure that could fit atop a keyboard or microphone (mic) stand. Back with the tour it was business as usual except for a single change in the on-stage monitor array. One channel, 350 watts, of a Phase Linear 700, was allotted to the skinny plywood cabinet that rested about three feet from Finnigan's face. The house lights dimmed. Midway through the first set the point at which Finnigan would customarily begin his nightly tirade about the inadequacies of the sound system, he paused to ask, "Could you please turn down the monitor?" The guys from Superior Sound knew they were on to something. Still, a few bugs remained. Overloading the speakers with eight or nine times as much power as their drivers were designed to handle sometimes produced surprising results: like the time one of the prototypes caught fire (actually burst into flames) during a show. Occasional pyrotechnics notwithstanding, the world's first personal monitors were an immediate hit with the musicians who used them. It was obvious that with some refinement the new products could fill a long standing void in the marketplace. Superior Sound began to metamorphose from speaker rental company to speaker manufacturing company. Galaxy Audio was born. Galaxy's first order of business was to ask our original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to construct drivers capable of handling significantly heavier power loads than the 10-watt models then being used. The OEM added features usually found on much larger drivers: nonferrous and heavy-duty . With improved power handling capacity two drivers could do the work of four, and the size of the cabinet could be reduced by half. Performance and quality were further enhanced when we began manufacturing our own drivers. Later, cooling (a process whereby a metallic emulsion is used to speed the dissipation of heat from the voice coil) was adopted, a change that resulted in an increase in the 5-inch driver's power handling capability from an already impressive 60 watts to 100 watts. That made it possible for each 8 pound HOT SPOT to easily accommodate (get this) 200 watts. A new word was introduced into the English language, "SPLOWT," speaker's splowt states the relationship between its maximum SPL and its weight. The HOT SPOT boasts one of the world's highest splowts: 19.8 bB! The material being used to build the cabinets had its own limitations (other than flammability). Plywood HOT SPOTS looked like the kind of stuff being cranked out in countless garages and basements. Cheap copies began to turn up all over the place. The second generation HOT SPOTS were reinforced with Fiberglass, which made them more airtight, infinitely stronger, and nigh unto impossible to bootleg. After Fiberglass came molded ABS plastic and the trapezoidal shape that gives the present day HOT SPOT its distinctive profile. Today more than 275,000 HOT SPOTs are in use.

The home of Gibson electric guitars today is "Gibson USA," built in 1974 in Nashville specifically for the production of Gibson's Les Paul guitars. Although the entire guitar industry went through a slump in the late '70s, the spirit of innovation remained strong at Gibson. In response to a growing demand for vintage stylings, Gibson tapped its rich history and reissued the dot-neck version of the ES-335 in 1981 and the flametop sunburst Les Paul in 1982. At the same time, two legendary guitarists joined Gibson- B.B. King in 1980 with the Lucille model and Chet Atkins in 1982 with his new concept of a solidbody acoustic guitar. Gibson world headquarters moved to Nashville in 1984 with the closing of the Kalamazoo plant. The financially troubled company was rescued in January 1986 by Henry Juszkiewicz and David Berryman, and the new owners quickly restored Gibson's reputation for quality as well as its profitability. Today's Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson's wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Green Hippo Ltd was formed in 1999 to provide new and innovative solutions for display of media. With backgrounds in Corporate presentation, control systems and the arts, we decided to glue all these diversities together and create something few others had: A professional team capable of combining technical ability with a creative flair. Early systems controlled DVD players via InfraRed since affordable hard drive playback for video was a nonestarter. However we soon progressed to servers displaying linear pieces of video via a touchscreen - hardly inovative by todays standards but at the time we knew we had the fastest and most stable system available and our first product was quickly snapped up by Luminar Leisure for their Liquid nightclub chain and the ball was rolling. But perhaps the biggest step forward came in 2001 when we teamed up with Swiss, Canadian and Siberian partners to develop the worlds first off-the-shelf realtime VJ console and, voila!, The Hippotizer was born. Launched at BAR 2001 the unit soon became recognised as THE realtime video server for the leisure industry. In spring 2003 we were approached by digital content providers Scene Change Ltd to develop a new variant of The Hippotizer. Digital Video Lighting is the biggest innovation in the lighting industry since the moving head and within months, V1 of the Hippotizer DMX range were born. Launched at PLASA 2003, the new DMX variants had dealers and users alike clambering to get their hands on the future of media display. These units are controlled via a lighting desk and use the industry standard DMX protocol for control. Suddenly we were ploughing into unchartered territory as one of the pioneers of this exciting new age of media display. By 2004 we were onto version 2 of the Hippotizer. Not solely for lighting anymore, the units are controllable by all the common industry protocols. Suddenly, with the addition of a seperate control center, dual output on the stage and a whole host of innovative features we were no longer the young upstarts. The system had matured and before long the majority of our systems were finding themselves on broadway shows, A-list Rock n Roll tours and in clubs around the globe. We are flattered to see that the competition now rushes to implement versions of OUR features into their systems! But receiving the Entertainment Design EDDY award for Projection Product of the Year 2005 gives weight to our belief that we make the most complete and useable media servers in the world. But don't take our word for it. Get your hands on one and let us know if we're right! By summer 2005 things were getting really scary with our new higher profile and we looked at ways to improve the way we work. So we implemented the inevitable and merged with Scene Change Under the Green Hippo banner to strengthen and streamline our team. We now have a core group of enthusiatic worker ants ready to take on the challenges that LED and new applications keep throwing our way. Group One is a US importer and distributor for a number of professional audio and lighting manufacturers. The origin of the company begins with Mr. Jack Kelly, who in 1980 established the US office for Klark-Teknik Electronics, eventually controlling US distribution for Klark-Teknik, DDA, Midas, BSS, and Turbosound. In 1984, Mr. Kelly helped establish and manage Celco Inc., the US distributor for Celco lighting control consoles. Mr. Norman Wright was employed in 1985 to look after Celco sales. In 1988 Mr. Kelly purchased Celco Inc. on behalf of the Klark-Teknik Group. Mr. Vincent Finnegan joined Celco, Inc. in 1988 to establish US distribution for other European manufacturers. In 1990 Mark IV Audio purchased the Klark-Teknik Group and by 1992, the Celco Inc. division was bought out by Kelly, Wright and Finnegan. At that same time, Mr. Chris Fichera, Sales Manager for DDA Consoles, left Klark-Teknik to start Group One with Mr. Kelly, and in 1994, Group One and Celco Inc. merged to form the company now known as Group One Ltd. The company operates primarily through a network of independent sales representatives calling on nearly 1,000 different dealer and contractor accounts. The company currently employs 18 people, all but one of which are based in Farmingdale, NY in a 13,000sq. ft facility. The building includes a 1500sq. ft. Demo Room where customers are invited to audition the companies lighting and sound products. The audio division of the company currently distributes Blue Sky near-field powered monitors, Celestion Guitar and P.A. loudspeakers, MC2 high quality innovative amplifiers, and XTA digital signal processing equipment for sound reinforcement applications. The Lighting division currently distributes Elektralite Controllers and Lighting Effects, and Pulsar Lighting.
