Open System for Compatibility
The 02R features an "open system" for compatibility with all major industry-standard digital audio formats: Tascam (TDIF-1), ADAT, AES/EBU, and Yamaha. Optional I/O interfaces allow the 02R to be easily integrated with any digital recorders, whether tape-based, or Non-linear "Hard-disc or Magneto optical." *See Optional Accessories.

Versatile 40-Input / 8-Buss Configuration
The 02R featuRES 40 input channels (24 analog and 16 digital), 8 output busses (analog/digital), 16 direct outputs, and 8 auxiliary sends for extraordinary signal processing power in remarkably compact dimensions. A single 02R can handle digital mixdown of up to 32-tracks.

Individual Channel PEQ and Dynamics
All input channels feature independent 4-band parametric equalization and dynamics for module functionality on a par with top-line professional consoles.

On-board Automation
The 02R offers real-time SMPTE or MIDI time-code based Recording and mixdown automation without the need for add-ons or modification. In addition all console settings can be stored in snapshots, for instant re-set of every mix parameter.

Twin RISC CPUs and 32-bit Processing
Newly developed Yamaha custom 32-bit signal processing LSIs and twin RISC CPUs add up to unprecedented sound quality and response speed.

Compatibility with All Major Digital Formats
The 02R integrates seamlessly with digital recorders and other equipment using industry-standard digital audio formats. Simply select the appropriate optional I/O interface cards (8 channels per card) and plug them into any of the 4 YGDAI (Yamaha General Digital Audio Interface) slots provided on the rear panel for direct connection to a wide range of Modular Digital Multitrack recorders, Digital Audio Workstation, and other digital equipment.

Interfaces
Since the interfaces can be selected and purchased as required, you may pay for the interface according to the number of tracks you have. Card types can be mixed. AD/DA interface (8 channels per card) using high-performance 20-bit converters is also available for connection to analog MTRs.

40 Inputs, 8 Busses, 8 Aux Sends
The 02R offers extraordinary input/output capacity for its size. 24 analog inputs and 16 digital inputs add up to a total of 40 channel inputs.

Channels 1 through 16
16 of the 24 analog inputs feature high-performance head amplifiers for optimum matching with microphone or line sources. Channels 1 through 8 have balanced XLR type connectors (with phantom power) and TRS phone jacks with input A/B switching and insert patch points. Channels 9 through 16 have balanced TRS phone jack inputs. These 16 channels can also be configured for digital inputs (Tascam, ADAT, Yamaha format), providing a total of 32 channels for digital mixdown.

Channels 17/18 through 23/24
Channels 17/18 through 23/24 accept line-level sources.

16 Digital Input Channels
The 16 digital input channels (TAPE 1 to 16) accept digital input in Tascam (TDIF-1), ADAT, or any Yamaha digital audio format. With the addition of an optional AD/DA interface the output from analog MTRs can also be returned to these channels for full 40-channel analog input capability.

8 Auxiliary Sends
8 auxiliary sends provide versatile signal-routing capability. AUX 5 and 6 can be used individually or as a stereo control room or studio monitor send, or as a performer's cue mix send when Recording. AUX 7 and 8 feed internal high-performance digital effect processors, and can be series-connected for sophisticated effect capability. The sends for each channel can be switched for pre- or post-fader operation, while 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 can be used as stereo sends if required.

Two Pairs of Analog 2-track Inputs
Two pairs of analog 2-tract inputs (balanced TRS phone and unbalanced RCA pin jacks) and 3 stereo digital 2-track inputs (one AES/EBU and two COAXIAL S/P DIF inputs) are provided. Two of the digital inputs can be routed to stereo input channels 17/18 and 19/20 for Recording or mastering applications. Multiple consoles can be cascaded for increased input capacity. Two 02R consoles, for example, can be connected to provide up to full-featured 80 inputs on 64 track digital mixdown.

Full Processing On All Inputs
The 02R provides extensive digital signal processing capabilities on all 40 channel inputs and 2 stereo effect returns for total creative control. Precise response tailoring is easy with 4-band full parametric equalization on all inputs: analog inputs 1 through 24, digital tape inputs 1 thrugh 16,and stereo effect returns 1 and 2. The LOW and HIGH bands can be used in shelving or HPF/LPF filters as required. A graphic display on the console's large LCD provides instantaneous visual feedback.

Dynamics Processing
Dynamics processing is also provided on all 40 input channels. 5 processor types are individually selectable for each channel: compressor, gate, ducking, expander, and a combined compressor/limiter/expander. Key-in and stereo link functions are also provided. Individual processing on each channel offers the type of extensive dynamics control previously only associated with much larger, extremely expensive high-end consoles.

Other Important Channel Controls
Include 20 dB pad switches on channels 1 through 16, detented trim controls (-16 to -60 dB on channels 1 through 16; +4 to -40 dB on channel 17 through 24), peak/signal indicators, phase switches, programmable channel delay up to 60 milliseconds, and direct outputs on channels 1 through 16.

EQ, Dynamics and Effect Settings
EQ, dynamics and effect settings can all be saved in memory for instant recall whenever needed. A large user memory area is provided in addition to a powerful preset library. These settings can also be handled as events within an automation program. An "undo" function instantly recalls the settings prior to a save operation, making it easy to try out new settings without losing all previous data.

Up To 4 Fader Groups
Up to 4 fader groups in which a single fader controls multiple specified faders, and 4 mute groups, can be set up as required. This allows convenient control of multi-source "sections" for significantly enhanced operation ease and efficiency. For convenient handling of stereo signals, the EQ and other channels parameters of adjacent channels (MIC/LINE 1 to 16, TAPE 1 to 6), can be linked for simultaneous control. Panning can be independent or linked, as required.

"Virtual Control Section"
In order to make control of a large number of channels with multiple module functions as easy and straightforward as on a traditional analog console, the 02R features a "virtual control section" and large 320 x 240 pixel backlit LCD panel. Routing, auxiliary send level, pan and EQ can all be accessed and adjusted with "analog ease". The appropriate display is automatically selected the instant any function is used for seamless operational efficiency.

View Function and Channel Library Function
A "view" function simultaneously displays all parameters for the selected channel. There's also a "channel library" function which allows all settings for a single channel to be saved and recalled as required. Data can also be copied from a source channel to any other specified channel.

100 mm Motor Faders
21 x 100-millimeter motor faders offer exceptionally smooth operation and precise control. Extra fader versatility is provided by FLIP keys which can be used to interchange the functions of the linear faders and rotary encoders on channels 1 through 16 for MIC/LINE or TAPE level control.

Comprehensive Outputs and Monitor Functions
The 02R supports both COAXIAL (S/P DIF) and AES/EBU digital stereo outputs. Balanced XLR type and unbalanced RCA pin-jack analog stereo outputs are also provided. Full 4-band parametric EQ is included in the stereo output stage for even further creative control. Dynamics processing is available on the 8 buss outputs as well as the stereo outputs. Both individual track processing and overall compression can be applied as required to satisfy any Recording situation.

Monitor Section with Studio and Control Room Monitor Outputs
The 02R features a fully-equipped monitor section with studio and control room monitor outputs, each with individual level control. In addition to the 2-track inputs and stereo buss, auxiliary sends 5 and 6 can be used to create a performer's cue mix.

Solo Signal: Recording Solo and Mixdown Solo
The 02R solo signal is sent to only the control room monitor outputs in the Recording solo mode, and to the main outputs in the mixdown solo mode. The solo signal can be taken either pre-fader or post-pan, as required.

Summing Solo, Last Solo and
In addition to the Summing Solo, a "Last Solo" mode is provided in which only the last pressed solo switch signal is monitored. In the mixdown solo mode a solo-safe function is available for all input channels, allowing monitoring of soloed channel plus associated effects.

Built-In Oscillator
A built-in oscillator provides 100 Hz, 1 kHz, and 10 kHz sine wave output as well as white noise. The oscillator can be routed to the 8 buss outputs, the stereo outputs, and/or the 8 auxiliary outputs.

Used Audio Mixers

Audio mixers, or sound consoles, are electronic sound mixing boards used to combine two or more audio signals, before directing them to the output channels connected to the device. Sound consoles do a great deal more than just combining different audio signals – they allow users to optimize the sound output in a number of ways – adjusting various sound levels, enhancing sound with special effects and equalization etc, allowing for unmatched control over the end product. When there is a need for high quality sound control and output, audio mixers are an essential item for audio team. Mixing desks are used on stage in live concerts to combine the sound input from various musical instruments in to a stereo master mix. For TV and movie studios, sound consoles are essential to combine the various sounds from the numerous different microphones that will be used. Audio mixers are available in a wide range of different shapes, sizes and designs, beginning with smaller units designed for portability, right up to the enormous sound consoles used in recording studios. The term audio mixer actually refers to any kind of sound mixing board, whereas a sound console is usually a device which sits permanently on a desk. Technicians usually differentiate audio mixers according to how many channels they have. Fairly standard in the recording industry is the 12-channel mixer, in which you can hook up a total of 12 input sources. Sound consoles can also be more specified – for example, a 24 x 4 x 2 mixer has 24 inputs, 4 sub-group channels and 2 output channels.
